Seen at Griffin

Much to my delight I discovered this gorgeous creature at the nightclub Griffin on Tuesday night. Griffin is in the highly questionable meatpacking district (that I always call meatmarket district –as a freudian slip, not intentionally) It used to be a questionable area because it was known as the place for trannies and prostitutes. Now it's questionable because it is full of poorly dressed Gossip Girl wannabes and men in midlife crisis. Which is why clubs like Griffin have the occasional stroke of genius to hire people like my friend George Perez to have parties there that will attract a different crowd...and let the others "experience" real NYC.

Happy Gay Pride NEW YORK CITY!!!

gayPride1
Who knew there was a group for Gay NYC bloggers? Gotta support fellow bloggers!
gayPride2
On a sick hot day there was a full on celebration at the parade. You can see all the crazy costumes online. I just wanted to post some kids who are "out" and about!
p.s. a note to all my gurlfriends: YOU are always on this blog so this time I wanted the baby dykes represented! ;)

and keeping with the skull theme

DSC0016
...thought I'd post this photo today. I love how the fellow on the left is looking slightly askance at his friend. And who doesn't love a marching band jacket decorated with skulls or a dress with mermaid sequins worn with a fade haircut? Lovely!

NYC nightlife icons

_DSC0010-Edit-copy

Yesterday I posted a photo of Patricia Field and received an interesting comment from a reader. She said she hated everything that Patricia was wearing but still thought she looked amazing. Part of what makes great style is this ability - to wear what you want and push boundaries of what others find acceptable and do it with such confidence that at best you get people questioning their own concepts of style, and at worst you don't care what others think. There were so many at Kenny Kenny's opening that successfully push these boundaries that I wanted to show a few more today.
Me with Kenny Kenny -love the topknot and eye makeup

Amanda Lepore is an iconic presence in NYC nightlife and always looks amazing. She is like a Barbie Doll come to life and is also extremely warm and unpretentious.
Patrick_friends
Vanity Society (on left) is a millinery and accessories designer as well as an entertainer and Patrick McDonald (center) is perhaps the most famous Dandy in New York and was recently on reality TV series Launch My Line. Vanity Society looks different but always dramatic every time I see him while Patrick has honed a very specific and sharp look. Two different tacts to create great personal style. (I don't know the lovely lady on the right!) Love or hate these looks, they're truly their own icons and for that I give them the mad props.

Nothing like a neutral tone to complement the theatrics...of the outfit and the evening.

Bon Bon Catwalk - Preview Edition

Okay, not a regular post but this is a mini-movie of a longer movie I'm in the process of making -all from still photos taken at Vandam and Greenhouse. After fashion week I realized here is where I see the best fashion and style. Starring Kenny Kenny, Amanda Lepore, Jordan Fox, Malik so Chic, Ladyfag and more.

Because The Blonds-and their friends- have more Fun!

blonds2
Last night I was one of the fortunate few who was able to attend The Blonds show. If you're not familiar with them (shame on you! ;)) Phillipe and David Blond have created some of the looks worn by the likes of Britney Spears and Rihanna in performance. They are determinedly over-the-top in their aesthetic and, while I'm as much a fan of deconstructed black as the next New Yorker, their colorful edgy glamour mixed with a good dose of humor (love this "lion" coat)has brought a much needed relief from the earnest seriousness elsewhere.

This dress and the spiky multiple rings are great examples of their combination this season of sexiness with a dangerous quality. I will definitely be adding more photos from the show but wanted to give you a preview today.

And with these designers you can expect a theatrical crowd. Along with some of my nightlife favorites that you've seen on Style Defined such as Malik so Chic and Jordan Fox there was J. Alexander (aka "Miss J" by ANTM fans) playing around with a gorgeous friend. The lace detailing on her dress is divine.

And I love the multi-colored polish and jems on his fingers...his own rainbow in the palm of his hand.

What to wear on laundry day

_DSC0015
You know how on laundry day you end up wearing left over clothing? The t-shirt that is kind of blah or the sweats with oil stains? (No, I don't either) But if you are a poor soul like this you could use some of the ingenuity shown here. This dress is a laundry bag! Belted, pinned and on the town. Oh, and the puffiness that gives it a subtle bubble skirt? A carefully arranged sheet! We ♥ the mind that comes up with this!

It's Jordan Fox, vandamit!

jordanFox
I'm having cabin fever due to the dreary rainy day so I'm going to make my night more exciting by going to Vandam tonight where the fierce Jordan Fox -front and center here- will be performing. Performing godonlyknows what but whatever it is, it should be a fun night.

A few more from the Latex Ball

deconstructed
The shredding continues...it's going to be huge this fall.coolCouple
The wraparound shades are a bit costumey but maybe work? We also kind of like the red leather jacket on the left. He looks like an extra in Breakin'.

3 at The Latex Ball

3WayLatexBall
If you have seen the documentary film Paris Is Burning you know what a ball in NYC is. If you are familiar with Madonna's Vogue video you know some of the way they move at a ball. Last night I was invited to attend The Latex Ball presented by the GMHC in Manhattan. While what was going on onstage was compelling and truly fabulous, I want to show you some of the offstage looks over the next few days.

Jordan Fox is an infamous chameleon who is constantly changing styles. We call this look "Madonna circa 1988 crossed with Footloose."

Petey Pig seen wandering in SOHO

On a random evening stroll in Soho we saw Bijou dressed like a wicked ballerina and Petey the Pig with a friend. Can't wait for Mr. Pig's Birthday Party on May 30th!

Malik So Chic has fash bash at ONO (oh no!-oh yes!)

Malik threw the first party of summer outdoors in the garden area of this hot restaurant located in the Gansevoort Hotel. It was wall to wall beautiful boys and the girls who love them...

A superstar worthy of Studio 54

Karmela knows smart boys make passes at girls who wear glasses - especially those created with Swarovski crystals by A-Morir.

Disco 10021 @ Bungalow 8 brings 27th street back

Karmela Lozina - Malik so Chic - George Perez

Malik So Chic & Cameron Nico

Remember when Bungalow 8 was the place to see and be seen? And then all those other clubs got on the 27th street bandwagon and it became one big bridge and tunnel frat boy scene?
Malik So Chic and Cameron Nico's new party is bringing some class and fierce creative creatures back to the block. More photos from the party coming to our MySpace page soon.
