In the newest issue of Nylon, I saw a DIY project that Betsey Johnson did for the magazine on skinny jeans. Since I haven't bought the copy yet, I can't give details.
The thing that drew me to the design of the project was the lace up back of the pants (which she did by slicing from the bottom of the jeans to just below the butt and placing metal gromets in the fabric and lacing a super long string through in hot pink).
It was fabulous looking and I just might try it myself somtime soon.
